Who’s at High Risk?

Current smokers

Former smoker (defined as those who quit within the last 15 years)

Aged 55 to 76 years, with a smoking history of at least 30 pack-years 
(1 pack a day for 30 years, 2 packs a day for 15 years, etc) and no history of lung cancer. 

Other risk factors include:

Secondhand smoke from other people’s cigarettes. 

Things around home or work, including 
asbestos, ionizing radiation, and other 
cancer-causing substances.

Chronic lung disease such as emphysema 
or chronic bronchitis.

Increased age.
